The Elisa Media Center is going through a complete rewrite for version 0.3 and was recently chose by Ubuntu Media Center Project as the software core for it development.
Yes, there is now an Ubuntu Media Center Project 
, led by Arnaud Quette. He is grouping forces to create an easy to use Ubuntu-base Media Center.
